Fondo (Trentino) – “ La Ciaspolada” is certainly the most particular sporting event among the winter sports organized in Trentino.
It has got the highest success as regards thenumber of competitors, in fact in the first edition there were 18 competitors and in the 30 they were 6.337.
The unbelievable success of “la Ciaspolada” due to two factors:

▫ It has been the first one in its kind in Europe that allows the competitors to race with snow-shoes (ciaspole in NonValley dialect).

▫ The ability and the availability of the organizers are the second reason.

The massive number of competitors and the particular proposal of the competition were initially the source of the great success it obtained in Italy and in the world.
In fact the competition had numerous registrations in 2003 from Austria, Germany, Swiss, USA and Centre, East of Europe.

Without speaking of the curious challenge launched in the last years by the African athletes: first from the Moroccan El Moussaul and then from the Kenyan Simson Limareng.
They were able to able to defeat Luigi Pastore from the Region Campania (King of the competition “nonesa” (of Non-Valley) with five victories).
He trained hard on the sand (in his Region Campania) to win on the snow.
After the African winners, we return to the Italians athletes.
Antonio Molinari (Trento) and Asha Tonolini (Brescia) dominated the 27 and 28 competition.
Again Antonio Molinari and Tiziana di Sessa wan the 29th competition.
A mild climate and a total absence of snow transform the 30th competition in a maxi rural run. With these climatic conditions the Kenyans Cherono and Vivian Cheruyot triumph.
Among the friends of the competition of NonValley which guarantees at Christmas 7000 tourist in the hotels of this area we find:
Laura Fogli (four personal victories) and Antonella Bizioli (both in competition again in 1998), Totò Antibo, Francesco Panetta, Laura Munerotto, Gelindo Bordin, Andrea Benvenuti, Salvatore Bettioli and Giacomo Leone (winner of the Marathon in New York 1996) who was present at the last competition with Francesco Moser the cyclist recordman responsible for the Tourism Department of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
To the start of the 29th competition, we can remember the Olympic mountain bike Paola Pezzo, Antonio Rossi champion of canoe and finally Manuela Levorato winner of two bronze medals for the 100 and 200 meters outdoor who will be later the testimonial of the 30th edition.
